GoPro Hero 8's overheating in direct Colorado sun... help!

Had the cameras shut down 20 minutes into the game. Very frustrating as it’s not even that hot yet.

Any recommendations for fans/sunshades?

There are several available on Etsy and Ebay. There are several designs that people have posted here that can be printed. Search the forum, hope you find one that fits your need.

Other things that help:

  • Turn off all settings you do not need
  • Power the GoPros from a USB battery and remove the internal batteries.
  • Use aluminum cages for the GoPros to act as a bit of a heat sync.
  1. Which settings should be disabled?
  2. Already using external battery and batteries removed
  3. Aluminum Cages???

I DID just purchase 2 USB fans - testing that now. But I was very surprised this failed @ 60 degrees F in direct CO sunlight. Thought this wouldnt be an issue May

Sunlight heats them up really fast. I ran into that issue with a GoPro 10 (notorious for overheating) recording football in the fall at 70 degrees on a sunny day. Didn’t have the problem on cloudy days at that temp. That’s when I started looking into the overheating problems. Even with the batteries removed I would stop recoridng at half time to give them a chance to cool off.

An aluminum case like this helps disapate heat a bit.
