Questions using 2 GoPro Hero 10 Blacks

I ordered two used GoPro Hero 10 Blacks off eBay. I’m wondering what the best practices are for powering them throughout a 60 min game (with water breaks and half time for the U9’s).

  1. Is it better to use their included batteries or to power them from an external power pack via USB-C (or whatever the interface they use is)?

  2. If an external power pack, what size should I get to keep them both powered for 90min+

  3. What is the easiest way to power both devices on/off and start recording? Ideally I don’t have to do so before raising the tripod.

  4. If there’s an easy way to stop/start recording while they’re on the tripod, do people normally make 2 recordings, one of the first half and one of the second?

Thanks in advance.

  1. I have found a good external battery, unfortunately it would only work using goprolabs firmware.
  2. Most will keep them going for 90min+ make sure the output amps satisfy gopro requirements, I use a 3A battery.
  3. I use gopros The Remote.
  4. I stop and start recording, therefore have 2 files for each half, the only issue is due to excitement, I have forgotten to start the second half :frowning:

Thank you, that helps. Do you strap the battery pack to the tripod or run long cables to keep the pack low/on the ground?

you’re welcome, I strap the battery

I have one external battery for each gopro; you just need to get one of the ones that has the higher power output usb-c (PD 22.5W). I got 10,000mah super small for like 25$ off amazon (some generic brand). Works for days of 2 games.
I leave the battery door itself open to improve air circulation and avoid the dreaded overheating crashes.
I use one of the goalie glove bags and hang it off the top mount screw of my tripod. Doesn’t look awesome but works well.

Good to know, thanks. I was thinking along the same lines, as I have used similar bags in the early days of using cell service for GPS (land surveyor here), so I still have them and velcro straps.

I’m playing around with the base STL for the 2 GoPros to add a slot that fits either of my two battery packs (one is 40kmah, the other 50k, and as such they’re different sizes) and I also want to add a roof to shield from the sun (to combat overheating + glare/exposure issues) and to protect from rain (so I worry less about the door being off). In Florida we get lots of sun and rain, and both can be unpredictable. The idea is also to clean up the rig aesthetically. I’ll post it here in the forums when I’m done in case anyone else would like to use it.
